Butter Hill Caravan Park

North Yorkshire

Small adults-only touring site below the Kilburn White Horse

About Butter Hill Caravan Park

Butter Hill Caravan Park is a small, adults-only touring site in Kilburn village, around eight miles east of Thirsk on the edge of the North York Moors. Its defining feature is its setting directly below the White Horse hill figure, giving the handful of pitches here uninterrupted views that few larger sites in the region can match.

With only five pitches, all featuring electricity, water and a hardstanding base, this is a deliberately small-scale operation aimed at couples and quiet touring visits rather than large groups or families. There is no shower and toilet block on site, so guests are expected to have self-contained facilities in their own caravan or motorhome; in exchange, the site offers a level of peace and a view that busier, more heavily serviced parks cannot provide. Dogs are welcome, and a 15 per cent deposit is typically required to secure a booking.

Kilburn itself is a small, characterful village known for the Mouseman furniture workshop founded by Robert Thompson, and the walk up to the White Horse and on to Sutton Bank starts almost from the site's gate. For visitors whose priority is a scenic, low-key pitch with immediate access to some of North Yorkshire's best short walks, rather than a full facilities package, Butter Hill offers exactly that, within easy striking distance of Thirsk for shopping, dining and the racecourse.
