Thirsk Racecourse Club Campsite

North Yorkshire

Touring pitches on the racecourse, a five-minute walk from Thirsk

About Thirsk Racecourse Club Campsite

This Caravan and Motorhome Club site sits on the grounds of Thirsk Racecourse itself, within sight of the main grandstand, and is open to members and non-members alike. It is about as central as touring camping gets in this part of North Yorkshire: the historic Market Place, the World of James Herriot museum and the town's pubs and shops are all a five-minute walk away, making a car largely unnecessary once pitched up.

The site offers a mix of touring pitches for caravans and motorhomes alongside a smaller number of pitches for tents, with electric hook-up available throughout and a drive-over motorhome service point for easy waste disposal. Facilities include a shower and toilet block with disabled provision, laundry facilities, and on-site dog walks, reflecting the largely dog-friendly, countryside-oriented clientele the site attracts. Charcoal and gas barbecues are permitted, and the open, level racecourse setting suits both families and couples travelling with an outfit.

Being on active racecourse land, the site's character shifts noticeably on race days, when the grandstands fill and the town takes on a busier, more festive atmosphere; camping here on those dates puts guests closer to the action than any hotel in town. Outside of racing fixtures it reverts to a quiet, functional touring base, well placed for day trips to Sutton Bank, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors, and open from spring through to early winter each year.
