Oakhill Camping and Caravanning sits on a working farm in the village of Oakhill, on the edge of the Mendip Hills roughly seven miles from Wells. Stated here as the nearest genuine option once Wells' closer sites are accounted for, it makes a good base for exploring the Mendips, Wells, Cheddar Gorge and Longleat, all within reasonable driving distance.
The site offers around fifteen pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, including grass pitches with optional electric hook-up and dedicated hardstanding pitches, plus two self-catering cabins for those without their own equipment. A shared toilet and shower block, a communal kitchen, a washing-up area and a small honesty shop cover the essentials, and hireable fire pits and a supply of logs suit evenings on site.
Dogs are welcome across the camping pitches, with two fields for walks and footpaths leading directly into the surrounding countryside. The site runs a seasonal opening from late March to late October, in keeping with its working-farm setting.
