Dee and Steve's is a small family-run operation at 169 Oxford Road, in the Victorian residential streets west of Windsor town centre. Rather than letting bedrooms in the family home, the owners run two adjacent self-contained units, which gives guests the privacy of a holiday let with the local knowledge of hosts on hand - a combination that consistently draws very high guest scores.

The main property has four bedrooms and sleeps six, making it one of the few options in Windsor that takes a larger family or group without splitting them across rooms. Next door, The Nook has two bedrooms and sleeps three, and works for couples or a small family. Both come with fully equipped kitchens, washing machines, drying racks and ironing boards, televisions in every bedroom, free wi-fi, and all towels, bedding and linen supplied.

Being self-catering, there is no breakfast service, but the kitchens are properly fitted and there are supermarkets and a good run of takeaways and pubs within a short walk. For anyone staying several nights, or travelling with children who eat at odd hours, that flexibility is usually worth more than a cooked breakfast.

The walk into central Windsor takes about fifteen minutes downhill, or a few minutes by bus, and Windsor and Eton Central station is a similar distance. Legoland is a short drive west along the B3022, which makes this a sensible base for families combining the theme park with a day at the castle. Book well ahead - with only two units, availability in summer disappears quickly.
