Goswell House Hotel

134 Peascod Street, central Windsor · Guest House

Small independent guest house on Peascod Street, about a minute's walk from Windsor Castle, with en suite rooms and air conditioning.

About Goswell House Hotel

Goswell House occupies the upper floors of a four-storey building at 134 Peascod Street, the old market street that runs downhill from the castle and now carries most of Windsor's shopping. The entrance sits between ground-floor businesses and is easy to walk past, but the position is hard to beat for the money - the castle entrance is roughly a minute's walk up the hill, and both railway stations are within five.

Rooms are straightforward and well kept rather than decorative, and all are en suite with a bath as well as a shower. The range covers single, twin, standard double, superior double and one family room, so it flexes for couples, solo travellers and small families. Each has air conditioning and heating, free wi-fi, a television, tea and coffee facilities and a work desk. Beds and linen are a cut above what the price would suggest.

This is a small independent operation rather than a serviced hotel, so expect a keypad entry and a light touch rather than a manned reception. Continental breakfast is available for an additional charge, though with Peascod Street's cafes and bakeries immediately outside the door most guests eat out.

It suits visitors who want a central Windsor base without paying High Street prices, and travellers passing through for Heathrow, which is twenty minutes away. There is no on-site parking - guests use the town car parks, with River Street and Victoria Street the nearest long-stay options - so it works best if you are arriving by train.
