The Christopher Hotel
Eton High Street, across Windsor Bridge · Inn
The only hotel on Eton High Street, a former coaching inn with 34 rooms, a bar and grill, and a quiet position minutes from Windsor Castle.
About The Christopher Hotel
The Christopher is the only hotel on Eton High Street, occupying a former coaching inn that served the London to Bath road before the bridge to Windsor was closed to traffic. That closure is the making of it: the High Street is now pedestrianised at the Windsor end, so evenings in Eton are genuinely quiet once the day visitors have crossed back over the bridge. Windsor Castle is about a seven-minute walk away.
There are 34 rooms in a range of sizes, from deluxe singles through cosy and kingsize doubles up to family rooms and junior suites. A number sit in the converted mews and courtyard buildings behind the main house rather than on the street, and these are the quietest. All are en suite, with Hypnos beds, flat-screen televisions, desks, laptop safes, tea and coffee facilities and high-speed internet. Rates include a full English breakfast, and booking direct adds a welcome drink.
The Christopher Bar and Grill handles food and drink through the day, and the hotel makes a good deal of its position among the antiquarian bookshops, galleries and pubs that fill the rest of the High Street. Eton College's buildings are at the far end, five minutes on foot, and the college's heritage tours leave from there in season.
This suits visitors who want to be within walking distance of Windsor Castle without staying in the middle of the crowds, and it is noticeably better value than the equivalent room across the river. There is limited parking behind the hotel, which should be requested when booking. Windsor and Eton Riverside station is around ten minutes on foot.
