Tudor Farmhouse Hotel occupies a genuinely old building in the village of Clearwell, a short drive from Tintern and the lower Wye Valley gorge. The core of the hotel dates back to the 13th century, and much of that history survives in exposed stonework, ancient beams and the odd crooked doorway that boutique conversions elsewhere can only imitate.

The twenty bedrooms and suites are spread across the main farmhouse and a scatter of converted outbuildings, and no two are quite alike; several have roll-top baths and monsoon showers tucked into unlikely corners of the old structure.
