I walked from Tennyson's Monument (2 miles) along the Downs which gave spectacular views. I have National Trust membership, but even without that I still would have entered this historic place. There was good information around and I explored the whole site include taking the spiral staircase down to the tunnel and along to the embellishment light because the view of the Needles from the end was well worth it - don't miss it! The tea room was small but good views and lovely cakes (plenty of outside seating). A couple of toilets onsite too

I had a wonderful visit to The Needles Old Battery and New Battery, a truly fascinating place that combines history, nature, and some of the best coastal views in the UK. The site is rich in history, from its origins as a Victorian coastal defence to its later use as a secret rocket testing site. Exploring the underground tunnels and rooms was incredibly interesting and gave a real sense of stepping back in time. The information provided throughout the site is clear and engaging, making it easy to appreciate the significance of the location. What truly stands out is the breathtaking scenery. The panoramic views of the famous Needles rocks and lighthouse are absolutely stunning, especially on a clear day. It’s one of those places where you can just pause and take it all in. The grounds are well maintained, and the staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, adding extra value to the visit. There’s also a peaceful atmosphere that makes it perfect for a relaxed day out. Overall, it’s a must-visit if you’re on the Isle of Wight perfect for history lovers, nature enthusiasts, or anyone wanting to enjoy spectacular views.

If you are a blue badge holder as one of our party was & is, you can drive down the cliff top road to a tiny car park just outside the entrance to the Battery. Just telephone ahead and/or when you arrive at the barrier to this road, call the office who will let you though. Ordinarily, parking would be at the Needles attraction car park just under a mile walk away from the Battery. The Battery itself was fun, especially the spiral staircase & tunnel to the searchlight overlooking the Needles themselves.

Offers fantastic views of the Sea, the Needles Rocks and surrounding cliffs. You have to walk from the Needles car park to the battery site as there is no car park on the top. There is gated road for only the Needles tour bus and anyone with a disability can go through. If you have a a disability you con contact the National Trust to get permission to take your car to the site.
