Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Staycation.co.uk collects, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legalese.

Who we are

Staycation.co.uk is operated by Lifestyle Media Group Ltd, registered in England and Wales. For the purposes of UK GDPR we are the data controller for this website. You can reach us at [email protected].

What we collect

We do not ask you to create an account and we do not require you to give us any personal information to read the site. The data we do collect falls into three groups:

• Analytics data — pages viewed, approximate location (country/region level), device type, browser, and how you arrived at the site. Collected via Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation, only if you accept cookies, and used in aggregate.
• Server logs — your IP address, the pages requested and the time of the request. These are generated automatically by our web server and are used for security, diagnosing faults and detecting abuse.
• Anything you send us — if you email us, we hold that message and your email address for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.

Cookies

Cookies are small files stored by your browser. This site uses:

• Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics to measure how the site is used.
• Advertising cookies — set by Google AdSense to serve advertising and limit how often you see the same ad.

We do not set analytics or advertising cookies unless you accept them. When you first visit, a banner asks for your choice, and nothing beyond strictly necessary storage is set until you accept. Rejecting is a genuine reject — no analytics or advertising tags are loaded at all.

You can change your mind at any time: review your cookie choice.

Advertising

We show advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in your Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info.

Affiliate links

Many of our accommodation links are affiliate links. When you click one you are passed through a tracking redirect (operated by our affiliate network) to the booking site. That redirect records that the click came from us so that any resulting booking can be attributed.

This costs you nothing and does not affect the price you pay. Once you leave our site, the destination site's own privacy policy governs your data — not this one.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties except the service providers who make the site work:

• Google — Analytics and AdSense
• Our hosting provider — server infrastructure and logs
• Our affiliate networks — click attribution when you follow a booking link
• Google Fonts and the Tailwind CDN — serving fonts and stylesheets necessarily discloses your IP address to those services

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to do so.

How long we keep it

Server logs are retained for up to 12 months. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention period set in our Analytics property. Email correspondence is kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

• Ask what personal data we hold about you
• Ask us to correct data that is wrong
• Ask us to delete your data
• Object to or restrict how we process it
• Ask for a copy of your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent where processing relies on it

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

Our guides link out to accommodation providers, tourist boards, transport operators and other third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be flagged on the site.
