About The Monsal

The Monsal occupies one of the most photographed spots in the Peak District, standing above the Monsal Head viaduct with views down into Monsal Dale that draw walkers and day-trippers by the hundred on a fine weekend. Beneath the main pub and cafe, the property offers a small number of rooms for overnight guests, giving those who stay the rare chance to have the view largely to themselves once the day's visitors have gone home.

The building functions primarily as an inn and cafe, serving food and drink through the day to walkers arriving from the Monsal Trail, which passes directly below, and the site includes the Stables Bar for evening drinks. Rooms are simple rather than luxurious, in keeping with the pub's role as a walkers' waypoint as much as a destination hotel, but the location more than compensates for anyone touring the trail on foot or by bike.

Monsal Head sits around four miles from Bakewell along the A6 and B6465, making it a workable base for exploring the wider Wye Valley, with Ashford-in-the-Water and the Monsal Trail's cycle hire at Hassop Station both close by.

Been here a few times for a walk and also on my bike. Flat and easy to navigate with a nice stop off point near then end of the trail where you can get drinks and snacks. Top tip, turn right when you get to the path from the main carpark. . .

What a truly beautiful place this is, taking in views of the impressive and iconic viaduct, the shear scale of the surrounding hillside, the peaceful flowing River Wye, the splender of the grass and trees with their awesome shades of greenery and the scenic Monsal Valley Weir that looks like a waterfall. All this is found at this part of the Monsal Trail, it's absolutely gorgous here. It's a bit of a hike to get down with the steep paths and all, but a nice walk and so much worth the effort. A fantastic place for a bit of an adventure, a picnic, or even a photo shoot, because it's great place with so many beautiful views ❤
