About Cambus O'May Hotel

The Cambus O'May Hotel occupies a Victorian building dating from 1874, set within its own woodland gardens four miles east of Ballater, close to the Cambus o' May suspension bridge over the Dee and the birch woods that give the spot its reputation as one of Deeside's prettiest corners. The current owners have been renovating the hotel since 2020, gradually restoring its traditional Highland character.

A restaurant serves dinner most evenings, along with afternoon tea, in a dining room that keeps close to the hotel's period features rather than a modernised finish. The setting among mature woodland gives it a quieter, more rural feel than hotels within the village itself.

Its position close to the Muir of Dinnet reserve and the old railway path makes it a useful base for walkers who want to be out among trees and river rather than in the centre of Ballater, while still keeping the village within a ten-minute drive.

Stayed in the family suite while attending an event nearby. The hotel was lovely. The staff were very welcoming and warm. Great with young children. The grounds are well taken care of and the play garden area is ideal. Would highly recommend.

Stayed here one night the room was old Victorian and so charming! The staff were so friendly and there was the cutest little dog who was all up for cuddles. Food was amazing and the views and walks near by are definitely something to shout about.

Lovely spot, we sat outside in the spring warm weather after our walks. Stayed two nights: food was excellent and staff wonderful. Some quirky features. Look out for the doll in the pram.

Excellent old style hotel. Great food and friendly staff. Wonderful pictures, paintings on the walls and other memorabilia. Walled garden and disused outdoor pool. Vehicular access to A93 is a bit ropey.
