What diners say
The Fiume Italian restaurant is beautifully located by the riverside and offering great views of the Battersea station. I went for dinner with a friend, and we managed to get an outdoor table. We ordered prosciutto and melon to share (2 slices); seafood pasta; and tiramisu. The pasta was good, but their portion sizes are small for the price (£22). Tiramisu was great. They do have an extensive drinks menu, but they are on the higher end. The service was good, but you do have to get their attention for your orders. Waiting time was okay. Overall experience was okay. I expect a lot more from a restaurant with high prices. Prepare to pay an average of £15 for a drink/cocktail. You are more likely to be satiated from a pizza than their pasta options.

We stopped in for a Saturday evening dinner, and were sat efficiently and our order was taken promptly. We enjoyed the atmosphere in the restaurant and there was a good buzz about it. We ordered some bread (specified on the menu as "sourdough, breadsticks, flatbread, soft focaccia") to start. What arrived were three wedges of very toasted chunks of bread and three pencil-thin breadsticks. Needless to say we were quite disappointed at the selection, especially as we'd paid £6.50 for it! The sea bass is as described: sea bass, cherry tomatoes and some basil, though nice the small portion for £15 meant there was more to be desired. We also tried the pescatora pasta which was nicely presented but the pasta was very chewy. Service started well and the food came out at a very good pace but once we had ordered the service became very lackluster. We had to catch a server's attention twice to ask for salt and pepper, and for more water. There was no check back and at least 3 staff members walked past our empty plates without clearing them away, despite the restaurant quietening down for the night. The lack of service was surprising as there was a discretionary 13.5% service fee being added onto every bill. Overall the wine and atmosphere were great but the food portions were quite small and nothing to write home about. The service left a lot to be desired, especially when a such a large tip was automatically expected.

We visited Fiume by Sartoria on a Sunday evening for a friend's birthday, with a table of seven booked in advance. The receptionists were lovely, welcoming, and promptly showed us to our table. Unfortunately, that was where the positives largely ended. I ordered the Tortelloni Piselli & Ricotta (£23.50), described as “tortelloni filled with sheep ricotta and Amalfi lemon, peas and broad beans”. What the description fails to mention is that you receive just six tortelloni. For £23.50, this was an astonishingly small portion and genuinely wouldn't have filled a child. I finished the entire dish in around two minutes and then sat waiting for the rest of my group to finish their meals. The pasta itself was also extremely disappointing. It sat in an oily emulsion that was bland and largely tasteless, making the dish feel incredibly underwhelming and low quality. Once the 13.5% service charge is included, this dish effectively costs £26.67, or approximately £4.45 per tortelloni. I have eaten at more than 300 restaurants across London over the past five years, and this is genuinely the worst value for money I can remember experiencing. The Tagliata di Manzo (£24) ordered by another member of our group suffered from a similar issue. The Aberdeen Angus sirloin with rocket, parmesan and balsamic arrived without any sides and was also a surprisingly small portion for the price. Even more frustratingly, the choice of sides was extremely limited. There were no chips or fries available at all, with the closest alternative being the Patate al Forno at £6.50, which are simply oven-baked potatoes. At this price point, you would expect a much more substantial selection of sides to accompany a steak. Those who ordered pizzas at least received more substantial portions, although these were still extremely thin and still came at a fairly premium price. The drinks menu was another disappointment. Peroni was listed at £5.50, which initially seemed reasonable for a London restaurant. I specifically asked the waiter whether this was draught and was told that it was. What wasn't mentioned was that it wasn't a pint, but seemingly only around a 0.3L glass. The measurements weren't clearly stated on the drinks menu, other than for wine, which felt unnecessarily misleading. Service was also virtually non-existent. We were rarely checked on, had to actively hunt down staff to place our order, and throughout the meal the staff appeared largely uninterested in our table. For a restaurant charging a 13.5% service charge, I expected significantly more attentiveness. The location is obviously attractive, and the restaurant presents itself as a premium Italian dining experience. Unfortunately, there was nothing premium about our visit other than the prices. The food was poor value, portions were extremely small, service was lacking, and even the drinks menu left us feeling misled. Quite simply, this felt like a restaurant where you are paying for the location and presentation rather than the quality or quantity of what is actually on the plate. At these prices, I would expect considerably more, and I would not return. If, like me, you come here and order the pasta, be prepared to visit the nearest McDonald's afterwards, otherwise you will be leaving hungry.
