What visitors say
Excellent country house, gardens and extensive grounds to explore including walks down to the River Tweed from the house. The house guide Carol was exemplary providing a fascinating insight into the house history and the storyline of Patrick Home. For nature enthusiasts there's lots of wildlife along the river walk to spot including herons and egrets and you might see a kingfisher too from the bird hide. An interesting waterwheel feature in the grounds too. Great tearoom serving excellent coffee and cakes or lunches.

The grounds around Paxton House are interesting and quiet extensive, leading through woodland paths and down along the bank of the River Tweed. The river is wide, and being tidal, fast flowing at times and full of wildlife. The interesting, guided House Tour lasted about an hour and a quarter and is the only way to view the interior of the Mansion. Our lovely guide Eilidh (I think that's right?) was cheerful, friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you for a great experience this morning.

We went up for the antiques fair which was brilliant, the amount of stuff and things is amazing, its really well organised parking was easy and the setting beautiful. If it was for that alone it would be 5 star. But and we get to the but the café for starters we wanted a Cumberland sausage role and coffee, but when I got to the till they finished at 12, there wasnt a single bit of signage to say this anywhere. Anyway I orded to sandwiches and two coffees and a piece of cake £29. When they arrived it was two finger rolls, the small cheap ones from morrisons a slither of filling some limp salad the cheapest coleslaw and 5 crisps. Atleast we didnt wait as we had the food 5 minutes before we got our drinks. The coffees are actually quiet good the cake was as dry as the rio grande. Paxton House and gardens and especially the antiques fair are worth a visit, just dont use the café.

The Antiques and Decorative fayre was excellent. All staff were friendly and lots of stalls with lovely antiques. A genuinely great day out. Seating. Refreshments. Toilets. Stupidly I chose to try the cafe at Paxton house, no organization, people taking tables whilst we had been waiting. I am restricted re my mobility. Hence loss of 1star. But the staff organizing and helping everyone to park were brilliant. If you visit please enjoy the pizzas or burgers, they are gorgeous!!!
