Had a great time out on Lake Windermere with Windermere Hire Boats. We hired one of their self drive boats for an hour, ten of us on board, and it was a proper relaxing way to see the lake. The boats aren't fast, but that's honestly part of the charm, it's about cruising at an easy pace and taking in the views rather than rushing about. The onboarding team deserve a special mention. They were friendly, patient and clearly knew the boats and the lake well, talking us through everything before we set off so we felt confident taking the helm ourselves. Made the whole experience feel easy and safe from the start. Would happily recommend this to anyone visiting the Lake District, whether you're a local or just passing through. Five stars, and we'll be back.

2nd time using this hire company for a fantail boat. Very child friendly and everyone issued with a lifejacket and clear and easy instructions on operating the boat. Seats 10 comfortably and has a table in the middle which is great for lunch/picnic. Plenty of space to swap seats and take turns at the helm. We went from Bowness to Ambleside (waterhead) and back in our two hour hire. Friendly, welcoming, polite and helpful staff.

Due to poor weather in the morning, we did not pre book our trip, we just turned up after lunch and hired a self drive boat straight away. We booked for 2 hours, which I'm pleased we did, an hour won't have been enough. We were advised by staff that we could travel up the lake or down the lake for an hour easily then return..we decided to go to the left when leaving the pier. I am pleased we did as not too many boats up that way . Our teenage boys loved it, had a go at driving the boat. Our dog enjoyed it too. The views were amazing. We would definitely recommend this trip. The staff were accommodating and friendly.
