Marsh Farm Caravan Site occupies a quiet stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal at Hilperton, just outside Trowbridge and a short drive from Bradford-on-Avon. The site is split into two small areas: the Paddock Site, open all year with five fully serviced hardstanding pitches overlooking grazing paddocks and the canal, and the adjoining Canal Site, a five-van Caravan and Motorhome Club Certificated Location set in a strip of lawn running down to the towpath, open from April to October.
This is a caravan and motorhome site rather than a tent campsite, and it is adults only throughout, which keeps it genuinely peaceful. The Paddock Site pitches have electric hookup and hardstanding suitable for awnings; the Canal Site has no electricity but does have a cold water tap, and both areas share access to a toilet and shower block. Direct towpath access means guests can walk, cycle or paddle into Bradford-on-Avon, Bath or Devizes without needing the car at all, and the canal here is also popular for coarse fishing and canoe launching.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at both sites. There is no shop or wifi on site, in keeping with its simple, back-to-basics character, but Hilperton and Trowbridge are close enough for supplies, and the canalside setting more than makes up for the lack of extras for anyone touring this stretch of Wiltshire by caravan or motorhome.
