Camping in Brean

Brean's holiday-park culture is really an extension of camping and touring tradition rather than something separate from it, and the village has some of the highest concentrations of touring and camping pitches on the Somerset coast. Sites such as Warren Farm, Northam Farm, Diamond Farm and Church Farm sit within easy reach of Brean Sands and offer everything from basic grass touring pitches to fully serviced hardstanding and glamping pods, many with direct or near-direct beach access and on-site shops, bars and entertainment. This is camping aimed squarely at family holidays and easy beach access rather than remote wild landscapes, and pitches at the larger sites can book up well ahead for peak summer weeks.

As with everywhere in England, wild camping on Brean Down, the beach or the surrounding farmland is not legal without the landowner's permission, and the National Trust does not permit camping on Brean Down itself. The flat, low-lying terrain around Brean and the Somerset Levels makes for easy, gentle walking and cycling between sites, though the exposed coastline can be breezy even in summer, so a sturdy tent and good pegs are worth the effort on the more open pitches. Spring through early autumn is the best window, broadly matching the operating season of Brean Theme Park and the water park next door, with July and August the busiest and liveliest but also the most crowded and the most expensive.

Glamping options have grown steadily at the larger holiday parks, with pre-erected safari tents, pods and static options available for those who want the outdoor feel without bringing their own kit. Given how much of Brean's accommodation is geared towards static caravans and lodges anyway, the line between camping, glamping and static holiday-park stays is blurrier here than in most destinations, and it is worth checking exactly what a site offers before booking, since some describe themselves as camping and touring parks while being predominantly caravan and lodge sites with only a small dedicated camping field.
