About Rowan Tree Country Hotel
Rowan Tree Country Hotel looks out over Loch Alvie from a spot three miles south of Aviemore, far enough out to be quiet and close enough that the town's shops, station and ski road access are only a few minutes away. It is family owned and run, and that is the character of the place: small, personal and well informed about what to do locally.
Eleven bedrooms are individually decorated, each with its own layout and outlook, and the emphasis throughout is on warmth and comfort rather than design statements. Practical touches matter here — free wi-fi, on-site parking, electric vehicle chargers and a genuinely pet-friendly policy, which is not universal among Cairngorms hotels of this size.
The restaurant has picked up awards and works largely with Scottish ingredients, cooking each dish to order rather than at volume. Loch Alvie itself is a quiet stretch of water with good birdlife, and the hotel is well placed for Rothiemurchus, Loch an Eilein, the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig and Loch Insh watersports, all within a short drive. The owners are outdoor people and will point guests towards routes and operators, which is useful if you are new to the area.

Fabulous stay at this wonderful family run hotel. The location situated on the beautiful Loch Alvie is stunning. The bedroom was very comfortable and the restaurant, which is very popular serves excellent food. All the staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcomed. We loved our stay and highly recommend this delightful hotel if you are visiting this beautiful part of Scotland.

The Rowan Tree is a gem of a hotel. The building has been lovingly restored. My room was delightful. Most of all, the proprietors are exceptionally helpful. Johnny went above and beyond in sorting out some travel logistics for me. The food was excellent. Be sure to try the double cream porridge at breakfast and the salmon at dinner. The special soup was phenomenal. The common downstairs spaces are inviting. I would have gladly spent an afternoon sipping tea or whisky in them had the weather turned. I felt a great deal of care here: for the guests, food, building, and an overall sense of doing things well. If you are a solo traveler, the Small Double Ensuite is an excellent value and a charming room. I would have liked to have stayed in it many more nights. Though it's a small space by measurements, the layout is excellent and it has a light and airy feel. From one window I could see the high point of my Craigellechie National Nature Reserve hike.

A beautiful restaurant in a beautiful location. What a lovely dining experience, the food was incredible from start to finish - particularly the beef wellington. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a smile, and were looked after so well throughout the meal. Special thanks to Cat who could not do more for us as we were celebrating our engagement. She made the experience even better! Thank you to the team, would recommend to anyone!

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Rowan Tree Hotel. The hotel is cosy and has lovely views of the mountains. We liked being able to go on lovely walks directly from the hotel. The food was fantastic with local ingredients and we also appreciated the local beer. The staff were really helpful and attentive. We really enjoyed our stay and will return when we are next in Scotland.
