Monachyle Mhor sits on its own working farm above Loch Voil and Loch Doine in Balquhidder glen, around eleven miles from Callander, and has built a national reputation for its restaurant since the Lewis family converted the farmhouse into a hotel. Bedrooms and suites are spread across the main house and converted farm buildings, each individually decorated, with several opening onto private terraces looking down the glen.

The kitchen draws heavily on the surrounding estate, using the farm's own lamb and venison alongside foraged and locally grown ingredients, and has held recognition in the main Scottish restaurant guides for many years. A separate cafe and cookery school operate from the farm buildings, and the hotel's position deep in Rob Roy country, close to Balquhidder churchyard where MacGregor is buried, makes it a good base for exploring the quieter glens west of Callander.

Monachyle Mhor suits visitors prioritising food and scenery over proximity to a town centre, trading a short additional drive from Callander for genuine highland isolation and one of the best-regarded restaurants in the wider Trossachs and Loch Lomond area.
