The Causeway Hotel was built in 1836 as the first accommodation for visitors coming to see the stones, and it still occupies the single best address on the coast - directly on the UNESCO World Heritage Site, a few minutes' walk from the basalt columns and immediately beside the National Trust visitor centre.
The hotel has 28 bedrooms, refurbished in a style that stays fairly traditional, with the front-facing rooms looking out over the cliffs and the sea. It is a three-star property rather than a luxury one, and the pricing reflects that, but it has picked up recognition including Coastal Escape of the Year and Three Star Hotel of the Year at the Irish Hotel Awards. Food is served through the day in the bar and restaurant, which is handy given how few alternatives there are within walking distance.
What you are really buying is timing. Staying here means you can be down at the Causeway before the coaches arrive in the morning and back again in the evening once the day visitors have gone, which transforms the experience of a site that receives very heavy footfall. The coastal path towards Dunseverick and Portballintrae runs past the hotel, Bushmills and the distillery are two miles inland, and Carrick-a-Rede is around fifteen minutes east. Book early - there is only one hotel in this position.

Called in for coffee and had a wonderful experience. Greer the hostess and her team were exceptional. Warm, friendly and so welcoming to walk in guests. The hotel has really changed positively and offers such a great selection of food and beverage choices throughout the day. Staff have been really well trained. Super visit and highly recommend.

I didn’t stay at this hotel but the restaurant downstairs is serving up absolute miracles. I had the steak burger after a long hike back from the Giants’ Causeway. This burger solved all my problems and relieved any stress I had that day. What a wonderfully crafted burger with an amazing combination of flavors. This burger changed my life.

Fabulous position and easy access to Causeway. View room looked over carpark and some noise from tables below, but still pleasant views in distance. Staff helpful and friendly. Room good though could do with extras eg tissues, washers, more coffee, milk etc due to cost but we did have a great stay. Convenient to eat in the restaurant downstairs. Food above average but bit basic, breakfast very good.

We visited for afternoon tea as a work group. Absolutely excellent and would highly recommend. Big thank you to staff member Monique, who was a wonderful help and really attentive. My colleague and I both have food allergies, and Monique and the team couldn’t have done more for us. The food was beautiful, and I would definitely like to return again in future.
