Fishing campground in Cheshire with lakeside pitches, showers and parking; busy during peak season.

About Chester Lakes

Chester Lakes is a fishing-focused campground on Church Road in Cheshire, built around a working carp lake. The site operates at capacity during peak times, which means it can feel crowded then, though this reflects its popularity with anglers rather than any shortage of space or facilities.

Pitches sit lakeside with direct access to the water. The campground has showers and parking right next to the lake, so you do not need to walk far with your gear. Staff are generally helpful and knowledgeable about fishing conditions, though visitor experiences of their professionalism vary. The lake itself holds healthy carp stocks, making it the draw for most guests who visit.

Visitors say this fishing spot offers great fishing with healthy carp and excellent facilities, including convenient parking right next to the lake. They also highlight the friendly and accommodating staff, who often provide helpful advice.

Some reviews mention the staff can be unprofessional.

Fished swan lake Friday night. Was told it’s a specimen water and you pay the bloody premium too. £30 a night or £15 a day. I’ve caught bigger fish on the pleasure ponds Could fish rose hill or cool acres for the same price with decent fish And all we caught was 2LB commons yes that’s right nothing over 2LB in weight And everyone else catching the same small stamp of fish nothing big at all And there is loads of loads of tiny fish that ain’t carp Although they say no other fish other than carp! Man on reception had some kind of attitude too Won’t return Fished here regularly before won’t again

Stayed at Chester Lakes recently and had a really disappointing experience with one of the older male staff/bailiffs. He came across extremely rude and unprofessional in the way he spoke to us, which completely ruined the atmosphere of what should have been a relaxing stay. What was even more concerning was that he smelt strongly of alcohol while interacting with guests, which is not something you expect from staff responsible for running a campsite safely and professionally. After looking through other reviews online, it seems this individual has been mentioned multiple times for similar behaviour. There appears to be a pattern of intimidating and bullying conduct towards guests, which is damaging the reputation of the site. Management seriously need to address this because customer service and professionalism are clearly lacking.

Wonderful day ticket venue. Lovely surroundings and good amenities close by. Perfect for parking right next to lake and sleeping in van. High chance of a bend in the rod so great if you’ve not caught in a while 😅
