What a gorgeous rural retreat for two – a roomy, luxuriously appointed wooden lodge set on a busy working smallholding near Chesterfield. The stylish interiors tick all the boxes: handmade wooden bed with a super-comfy mattress, a proper-size corner shower, and a full kitchen with a full-size oven for cooking up feasts (source foodie treats in Chesterfield, just five minutes' drive). The open-plan living space flows naturally from dining table to sofa, perfect for planning Peak District adventures ahead.

Outside, a sheltered private garden offers alfresco dining with sweeping rural views, while after dark the firepit becomes the star attraction – literally, under Derbyshire's clear night skies. It's an adults-only, peaceful spot with just a handful of pitches, so you're guaranteed tranquility. WiFi keeps you connected if needed, though you might prefer to simply unplug and soak up the countryside.

I don't know where to start. This may only be a Shepherds Hut in a quieter and lesser known area of the White Peak but it is a hidden treasure - a place of pure relaxation, charm and of the highest quality. It is larger than most standard Shepherd Huts and is of the absolute highest quality. The bed is comfortable, the shower hot and powerful, the facilities are top class and there is nothing missing. In fact there are lots of thoughtful extras like a homemade cake to arrive to, a beautiful outdoor and private seating area with a fire pit and BBQ. I can usually find something that I would recommend to improve my self catering accommodation holidays but in this case I honestly can't. I only stayed for a long weekend but it is spacious and roomy enough for a week without feeling claustrophobic or cramped. I can't wait to go back to be quite honest as I felt truly relaxed for the whole stay. Thank you Diane and Stephen. Keep up the great work. Emma x

I bought a gift voucher for the Wooley Pingle for my husbands birthday - Diane was so helpful and went out of her way to ensure the voucher arrived in time. We have just returned from our stay and it was absolutely magical. The hut was so cosy with amazing views all round. We had everything we needed and the hosts Diane and Stephen had left welcome treats that included a home made cake that was delicious. Even though the weather wasn’t good on the Saturday we enjoyed being cosy inside the shepherds hut, with better weather on the Sunday we were able to get out and enjoy one of the many walks in the area. A great pub within walking distance was an added bonus. We look forward to returning to the Wooley Pingle again in the future.

We have had a lovely stay at the WP. Very high standard of accommodation with all the things you may need. We were made to feel very welcome with a cake and lovely snacks. The hut is beautiful, cozy and comfortable. Bonsall is located well for exploring the local area, we walked in a loop between Matlock Bath and Cromford. The Barley Mow pub is 2 mins down the road which is a great place too with fine beers and lovely food. A return is on the cards
