What visitors say
Truly our happy place! We stumbled across this little patch of heaven entirely by accident and couldn't escape it's quiet, understated charms. As often as we can we come here to wash off the stresses of life and recharge our batteries. The owners keep the site in great shape and are always ready to help with any issues that arise, as well as sharing insights into life on a working dairy farm. Where else might you get to see the joy of a calf being born or find out how a milking parlour works. Thank you to Trevor, Judith and Mark for being not just hosts but valued friends, each time we leave your site we cannot wait to get back and that is surely the best testament to what you have created. 5 stars is simply not enough!

As I haven't stayed on the site this post is purely about Judith and Trevor the owners of Melmerby Mill: My friend and I were en route to Alston a few miles up the road from Melmerby on a coast to coast bike ride on 23/07/21 when my bike broke down and was unridable, it was 20.30 on Friday night and taxis in nearby Penrith were too busy to come out to get us. After trying all we could think of to find a way to transport ourselves and two bikes it was looking bleak. As a last resort I walked into the caravan park to see if I could find help; luckily I met Judith, after explaining my predicament to her she called Trevor and despite being about to leave for the pub himself he agreed to give us a lift. We were taken 11 miles to the door of where we needed to be and treated to Trevors years of local knowledge on the way. This kindness spared us a very long walk and enabled us to continue our ride after repairs the following day. If Judith and Trevor run their site in the same selfless and caring way I think it would be a great place to stay.

Love our home from home at Melmerby Mill. This will be our 12th summer and we can say its the best investment we have made. It's great to escape to. Well run by non intrusive owners.
