What visitors say
As always you know what to expect at a camping club site. A warm welcome. Spacious pitches. Clean facilities. This a is a lovely site with lots of hedges and trees to give privacy. This site it particularly spread out and spacious. Easy access to the canal for a walk to the Devizes and the caen hill locks.

We booked a three-night stay at this campsite as Club members, paying the discounted rate of £50 per night. Unfortunately, both my wife and I were so disappointed that we cut our holiday short. On arrival, the staff were welcoming and helpful, and after being shown to our pitch, we got settled in. We had a hardstanding electric pitch. As we always do when touring, we put up our awning for some shade and placed our windbreak on the grass immediately beside our pitch for a little privacy. A few hours later, three campsite wardens approached us and told us it all had to be removed. We were informed that we had only rented the hardstanding pitch itself and that absolutely nothing was allowed on the grass, as it had to remain clear as a fire break. We complied immediately and packed everything away. We didn't even bother trying to reposition the motorhome. We simply sat on the grass in two chairs and hoped we wouldn't be told off for that as well. What made this even more frustrating was that another camper suggested we walk around the site. We did, and found numerous cars and other items parked on the grass beside pitches. It left us wondering why the rules appeared to be enforced differently. The shower facilities were another disappointment. We were visiting during a heatwave, and the last thing you want is a very hot shower. The push-button showers offered no way to adjust the temperature. A member of staff explained this was to help prevent Legionnaires' disease, which is understandable. However, surely there could still be the option of a cooler or tepid shower, especially in very hot weather. My wife is registered disabled and simply couldn't cope with the heat of the showers. To their credit, the staff were very understanding and kindly offered us a key to the accessible shower room, where the water temperature could be adjusted to whatever was comfortable strange how they were adjustable ? We really appreciated their kindness and helpfulness in this respect. Unfortunately, I still gave up using the main shower block altogether and used the shower in our motorhome. The shower trays were heavily stained, the floors looked tired and grubby, and the whole washroom desperately needs refurbishment. It really feels as though it's been left behind and could do with being brought up to modern standards. Outside the shower block, the roof area was strewn with toilet brushes, which looked untidy and gave a poor first impression. I also found it astonishing that the chemical disposal area had no hand washing facilities whatsoever. After emptying a toilet cassette, being unable to wash your hands feels both unhygienic and unacceptable. We arrived late on Thursday afternoon and spent most of the evening in the motorhome. On Friday we enjoyed sitting outside until we were told to remove our awning and windbreak. We then went to the local pub to escape the heat and enjoy some shade. After staying Friday night, we decided to go home early on Saturday morning instead of Sunday as planed. The campsite Wi-Fi was extremely poor. In this day and age there is little excuse, especially when fibre broadband and Starlink are readily available to distribute trough existing networks. Some people need a reliable internet connection while away, and on this site it simply wasn't possible. To make matters worse, the EE mobile signal was also extremely weak. Overall, we were genuinely disappointed. We were glad to leave, and sadly we cant see us returning. We appreciate that campsites need rules, but they should be applied consistently and fairly. Combined with tired facilities, poor Wi-Fi and the lack of basic hygiene facilities in the chemical disposal area, this was not the relaxing break we had hoped for. I would also like to thank the staff member who helped my wife by providing access to the adjustable disabled shower, as that kindness was genuinely appreciated.

This is such a lovely, welcoming and clean campsite - a haven of tranquility, with the Avon and Kennet canal right on your doorstep. From the moment you arrive until the moment you leave the staff are always very welcoming and keep the facilities clean and operational. There's a lovely dog walk on site, a playground for the little ones, and wildlife aplenty - at night there are plenty of rabbits hopping around. On a clear night there's not too much light pollution so it's great for stargazing. The Three Magpies pub and bus routes are nearby, and the Barge Inn is only a short, quiet walk along the canal. We return every year as a base to visit the Urchfont Scarecrow festival and it suits us well.

Jobs worth site manager. Washing machines are unavailable on day of arrival until 4pm and then locked away at 7pm. Very nice real estate though. Amazing how different and nice the managers are at other sites by comparison.
