I agree with ALL the above comments. Both negative and positive. If you chose the campsite for wild swimming you can get to the river by parking in forestry C.P. (free) just over Clifford Bridge, walking up step gravel path, turning right at top and following the wide path for 30 minutes where river gets wider. But the camping: was fifties but worth a look if you like basic. The owners, are super helpful and facilities basic (a loo and a shower)but in whatever state is fine by me). I really loved the oldness of it all and all the different spaces to camp in. MAIN FIELD: is past the house on Sweet Meadows drive with trees both ends giving shade at certain times. Also there's a hidden away place in deep shade (with a table just for eating/socialising) MY PITCH was also very shady all the time. It was on the left before the house through a 5 bar gate but the track was both windy, uneven and steep making reversing up it a nightmare but I was told this was easier than doing it the other way round. It made me so nervous going out, or in, to look for pub food (and without internet) I didnt go out much. I walked past the swing and into a lovely spot for lovely camp .. a summerhouse on left provided a step for my stove but watch out for ants, with the loo and shower at end attached to the house. Walk around the house to the back where there's a drinking water tap. On the whole though I think for best access I would've found everything much easier if I had gone for the big field and used the area in deep shade with a table for eating. FORGOT TO SAY : open fires allowed everywhere in tin s plus a made up one at end of garden. I hope this rather extended description gives you a good idea to go to this really lovely spot with it's exentricities

I had a 3night stop-over at this rustic, charming, traditional, Dartmoor cottage garden campsite. The owners are welcoming, charming, and hospitable. The area outstanding for hiking, biking etc. Fair pricing for the facilities on offer (flushing toilet, sink & shower)... I have a 6M Fiat Duccato van conversion....managed to gain access no problem, wouldn't want risk a much bigger van on these local roads. I'd happily stop-over again for couple of nights.

Would not come back, this campsite is very run down. The site was in a peaceful valley, but felt neglected. The bathroom is not pleasant and we couldn’t work out how to lock the door (didn’t dare try the shower). No washing up facilities or bins that we could see. The route to the bathroom goes past a derelict swimming pool half filled in with dead plant waste - not at all safe for kids. Would not recommend.

Beautiful location. Friendly, welcoming hosts happy to recommend local places of interest to visit. Woods and river within close walking distance are absolutely stunning. Clear waters perfect for swimming. Views from top of valley incredible. Pubs nearby. We camped in our van in a secluded spot at the bottom of the garden, under an old pine tree and surrounded by daffodils. The whole site was covered in a variety of daffs and looked so pretty. You can have campfires and there are tarped areas to provide shelter outdoors. The wildlife is amazing, the birdsong is constant and the only sound in this incredibly peaceful location. Although you can sometimes hear the river you are so close. We left feeling so relaxed and rested. It is a delightful campsite and feels a hidden gem. We were the only campers on site at the time and had 4 days of blue skies and sunshine in March. It may get a little challenging if the site is full with only 2 toilets (1 shared with house and 1 compost loo in the woods) and the shared shower/toilet room could do with updating. If it wasn't for this I would give 5 stars. It is rather wild feeling and glorious for it. We look forward to returning at various times in the year to see how the seasons change the site and the surrounding area.
