Tucked into a gorgeous pocket of South Devon countryside, Wilderhus Glamping offers Scandinavian-inspired 'tiny homes' spread across a wildflower meadow just a couple of miles from Dartmoor National Park. Each characterful unit is completely self-contained with its own composting toilet, small kitchen, barbecue and solar-powered lighting, plus the real treat: a private wood-fired hot tub overlooking the fields (available for an additional fee). The seven-minute walk across pasture to reach your pitch sets the tone for a properly unplugged stay, ideal for stargazing, wildlife spotting and soaking up the quiet.

This is eco-credentials done properly – the site's won awards for its sustainability efforts, from borehole water and renewable energy to ethical suppliers. The solar power can be temperamental on grey days, and you'll want to bring drinking water, but that feels like a fair trade for such a peaceful, remote setup. Foodie town Ashburton is ten minutes' drive, while Totnes, Newton Abbot and the wilds of Dartmoor are all within easy reach.

We stayed in the Crooked Billet for one night and it was great! Large private space and everything was clean comfortable. The highlight has to be the host Adam. Not only did he greet us on arrival and show us around, we were able to book in a pizza making session as well as him coming to our rescue on multiple occasions for various things. A beautiful, tranquil and secluded hideaway set in gorgeous surroundings with everything you need for a romantic escape. The host was super lovely and attentive. We enjoyed the hot tub, bbq and tree swing. I highly recommend.

We stayed in the Geodome, ‘The Crooked Billet’ and it was amazing! Virtually no light pollution provided us with a magnificent view of the moon. The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable. Given the high temperatures, the dome stayed cool, especially in the evenings.
