Watersmeet Hotel

We stayed for 3 nights, on recommendation of friends and were not disappointed. Our lovely room overlooked the rocky beach below and wonderful turquoise sea views. The hotel felt calm and welcoming and this is all down to the staff. Despite being busy, nothing was ever any trouble and service was excellent - from just ordering a drink in the bar to a full on evening dinner. We ate in both The Rocks, with panoramic windows and the feel of dining aboard a cruise ship (all tables having some view of the sea) and The Palms (tucked just off the patio area). Both were excellent and the quality and choice of food was superb (on our visit, lots of fresh fish, king prawns and mussels). The Rocks is more 'fine dining', with The Palms also having exciting dishes plus fish n chips and burgers, so something for all tastes. The pool area is beautiful and there is seating scattered everywhere, so lots to choose from as well as the lovely terrace area. There is also a small indoor pool. What we liked was the spacious bar area and public rooms, for a relaxing drink or just sitting and enjoying a book. So many hotels have done away with this sort of space, which we find a real bonus. A perfect place to relax after dinner. The walking here is brilliant, being part of the South West Coast path and you can literally walk out of the hotel onto the coast path (which is breathtaking). We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The staff were genuinely kind, welcoming, and happy to help. The location is simply incredible: perfect for exploring and enjoying the surroundings. The rooms are beautifully decorated, stylish yet very comfortable, and everything felt thoughtfully designed. And the pool… absolutely outstanding. A truly relaxing and beautiful space that made the whole experience even more special. We would happily come back and highly recommend this hotel.

We came back here after many years and spent such a lovely evening and day at the hotel at relatively short notice. Lisa and Tace were exceptional and delivered 5* service throughout. The chef was flexible to our late arrival, was friendly and the food was delicious. Our room definitely felt on the tired side but the hotel has some great areas to relax, the private beach area is perfect and overall we were reminded of why we had such a great stay all those years ago. Definitely worth staying here for relaxation and North Devon luxury. Thanks all!

We stayed at the Watersmeet Hotel over the bank holiday weekend, booking two Sun Pipe rooms last minute (one twin and one double). The setting is absolutely stunning, perched overlooking Combesgate Beach, and the location really is hard to beat. The communal areas inside the hotel are beautifully done: bright, light, nautical themed and very comfortable, with lovely sofas and relaxing spaces to sit. The outdoor pool area is also gorgeous, although it’s let down by broken umbrellas and a lack of sun loungers. The indoor pool was pleasant enough for a swim, but the spa area felt quite underwhelming for a four-star hotel. There’s nowhere comfortable to properly relax, just a few high chairs, and overall it lacks the luxury feel you’d expect. We had dinner overlooking the beach and the food was genuinely very good and good value for the setting. Breakfast was also excellent, with a continental selection alongside cooked-to-order hot options. Unfortunately, the restaurant service didn’t match the quality of the food. Staff felt disengaged and as though they didn’t really want to be there. In contrast, the reception team were fantastic and couldn’t have been more helpful throughout our stay. We stayed in rooms 18 and 19, and unfortunately one room’s air conditioning wasn’t working, which made for a pretty uncomfortable night, especially over a warm bank holiday weekend. As the hotel is older, you can also hear a lot of noise through the walls and corridors. Overall, this is a hotel with an incredible location, lovely food and attractive communal spaces, but for the room rate we expected more. Having stayed in many four and five-star hotels around the world, we personally wouldn’t return unless they improve the facilities and better their service.
