Coghurst Hall Holiday Park

Firstly, we arrived at our caravan which was tucked away in a corner that had the atmosphere of a rough council estate, we then parked in a communal parking area having to make 5 journeys back and forth in order to unload the car. We then had chance to take stock of our 'gold plus caravan' of which the site manager says "we dont do gold plus caravans, they are either gold, silver or platinum" I dread to think what the lower graded caravans are like! There was an old wobbly lose paved path off the main path to the front door, there we were greeted with numerous fag ends that had been chucked around the front steps which themselves looked old and rickity. As we entered the caravan, we were greeted with what can only be described as a musky urine smell, again following the complaint response it was our expectations that it shouldn't smell. At this point we had to open all the windows and spray perfume everywhere to try and kill this off. The light bulb above the darkest part of the caravan was not working which also happened to be the kitchen. The reply to this following oir complaint was "after the flickering it settled extremely dim which passes our checks as working" This was reported straight away at the front desk to which the warden responded (I'm very busy) and was never tendered to from 4pm when we arrived until 10am the following morning when we left. The gold plus aspect I'm still trying to figure out as there isn't even a shaving point in the bathroom. My partner who had been laying on the carpet colouring in with our daughter ended up covered in white hair from God knows what, the TV also did not work apart from the odd intermittent flickering of colour and a frozen channel. Again this was our own expectations hoping it would be better than what we got and they felt it was all good. We were also disappointed with the fact the it became apparent the area has poor phone reception so they chose to capitalise from pre-paid wifi. The park itself is not a very entertaining one as park facilities are poor for kids about 9 to 13 with one child type park available with one lone slide. All I can say is avoid at all costs. The advertised caravans are certainly better than what we ended up with as it felt like we had gone back in time to the 70's!

Having been regulars at various Park Holiday sites, we decided to give Coghurst Hall a try. Honestly? It was a massive disappointment. ​The park was run down with poor facilities. The bar and arcade area smelled like feaces due to the proximity of the smelly toilets. The bar was completely dead, and the staff, regulars, and caravan owners where all miserable. It felt like a very unwelcoming environment; despite being advertised as a family park, the vibe was so poor that I wouldn't feel comfortable bringing children here. The one and only positive about our stay was the caravan was lovely and very clean. ​It was such a bad experience that our entire group decided to leave after only one night of our four-night stay. We actually found ourselves in the ridiculous position of having to book a new holiday while already on holiday just to save our week. ​Luckily, we were able to get into Coombe Haven just down the road for the remaining nights, where the vibe was immediately welcoming and upbeat. We definitely won’t be returning to Coghurst Hall and are already planning our next break at Coombe Haven. Avoid.

Caravan fine albeit a bit short on cookware but the best part is the site staff who are all really helpful and pleasant. The pool is nice and warm if a bit shallow for actual swimming. Over a heatwave, it was nice to wallow for a bit.

Booked a Gold pet friendly van, but not sure if it was. Very clean so no complaints there. But this van was buried in the bushes, every window was a wall of blackberry bushes. The patio area was very messy, again massive trees so bird poo everywhere, bushes 20 feet high so no outlook whatsoever, which made it very dark inside. Must be the worst positioned van I have stayed in. Also couldn't watch TV as kept freezing, think the trees were blowing the signal
