About Tarr Farm Inn
Tarr Farm Inn stands on the slope above Tarr Steps, the ancient clapper bridge of massive stone slabs that crosses the River Barle in the southern half of the national park. The building dates from the early 1600s and the setting is close to perfect: a wooded river valley that forms a National Nature Reserve, with the only sounds being water, sheep and the occasional walker.
Nine bedrooms are spread across the inn, refurbished in a clean contemporary style with large beds, good bathrooms, sherry and home-made biscuits on arrival. They are noticeably quieter than the average village inn because there is essentially nothing else here.
The kitchen has built a strong reputation over the years, with local game, Exmoor beef and lamb and river trout on the menu, and the operation has been called on to cater at Glastonbury and Badminton. Cream teas are served on the terrace in summer. Walking is the main activity: the riverside path upstream towards Withypool and downstream to Dulverton is among the best in Exmoor, and Winsford Hill rises directly behind. Dulverton, with its shops and restaurants, is about twenty minutes by car along narrow lanes.

We stopped for lunch and a pint half way through our Exmoor walk. What a superb pub! We enjoyed some excellent Exmoor ale and cider and the vegan burgers were super tasty and well presented. Service was good and the pup itself was perfectly situated and beautifully kept. It was so nice that we are hoping to return to stay for a few days. Oh, and the drink and food prices were surprisingly reasonable. It's rare these days to be able to buy 2 drinks for under a tenner!

A stunning inn perfectly situated to see the Tarr Steps. We stopped off on a bike ride for refreshments as it’s blooming hilly round here. Word of warning if you do cycle there don’t cross the river and ride away from the inn, it’s a 20% incline which we found out the hard way. The inn itself is beautiful and offers B&B also. We opted for the cream tea. Two huge, warm scones with loads of cream and jam. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. Terraced areas for seating with wonderful views. I’d visit again but I’d come in the car next time.

Well! What can I say? Thoroughly recommended! When 9 drenched men arrived and approached the bar, we were given such a warm welcome and enjoyed our cups of coffee, before setting off on our walk past Tarr Steps. After a pleasant ramble we returned (even more drenched!) we were ready to pop into Tarr Farm for some liquid refreshment. On our return we were ushered into the warmth of the OAK room. Every one of us commented on how friendly and helpful everyone was. We were So glad found this gem of a pub, so we must say a massive thank you to all the staff for accommodating 9 of us. Keep on doing what you’re doing….because in our opinion, this how all pubs should be run! 👏👏

We had a lovely and all-too-quick stay while walking the Two Moors Way. The place is beautiful, the location is perfect, and the food was absolutely delicious. They were also very accommodating of our late arrival and allowed us to park the car for an extra night while we were elsewhere completing the route. Would love to come back!
