About Fotheringhay Castle Farm Site

Tucked beside the historic village of Fotheringhay in Northamptonshire, this small eight-pitch site occupies peaceful farmland where campfires crackle under open skies. The lack of electric hook-ups and showers keeps things refreshingly simple—just basic toilets and drinking water—so you'll need to come prepared, but that stripped-back approach suits campers seeking a proper escape from the everyday. Dogs are welcome to roam, and the village itself, crowned by its handsome church spire where Mary, Queen of Scots met her end, lies just a short stroll away.

With a 4.8 rating from visitors, it's clearly doing something right for those happy to trade modern conveniences for atmosphere and starry nights around the fire.

What can I say but WOW. Again castle farm campsite did not disappoint. Stayed this weekend to get a last summer camp in this year. We love it and the dogs love it more. Was lucky enough to get the private camp spot this time, right on the riverside. Caz you are a legend as always see you all next season. #almostofgridcamping

Just returned for the third time as part of a group and really love this site! It's very basic with just portaloos and a cold water tap but that suits me! The highlight of the sight is the direct access to the river which is great for swimming or going out on paddleboards or canoes. Caz who runs the site is always really friendly and helpful. Looking forward to next year already!

I have nothing but praise for Fotheringhay Castle Farm! We love it so much we now go every year in a big group for a week and it is one of the absolute highlights of our year. Kaz has been nothing but wonderfully friendly, kind and helpful (I find the reviews saying otherwise hard to believe! Those people must have been breaking some rules...), going out of her way to check in on us and see if we needed anything and she keeps those toilets SPOTLESS. We spend most of our week on the river, swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding and it's just wonderful. Prices are very reasonable, facilities are basic (which is how we like it) but beautifully maintained. Kaz and Charles intentionally keep bookings to a minimum (even though they could easily take a lot more) to ensure the site never feels crowded or busy. It's a peaceful, beautiful place and we can't wait to return again next year :)

What a lovely campsite! stunning location with kayak and paddleboard launch spots on the river Nene, even a great location for swimming too. The campsite is dog friendly too and located adjacent to some really lovely footpaths across the field on the Nene way. The facilities are basic, just portaloos, which were clean well stocked with loo rolls and cleaning spray etc but no showers. There is running water available to fill up kettles and for washing up etc so just be prepared for that. Also you have to take your rubbish home as there are no bins. The only thing that wasn't clear before we booked (no mention on website etc) is that you cannot have day visitors and they are really strict on this, understandably you want to to preserve the tranquility of this lovely spot and not be overrun by additional people, but it would have been helpful to know this before we booked. Aside from this, we loved it and will definitely be back. Thankyou for having us Kaz and team 🙏
