Hotels in Fritham

Fritham itself has no hotels, and that is very much part of its appeal – this is a hamlet to pass through on the way into the forest rather than a base packed with places to stay. The one exception is right on the village green: the Royal Oak pub has added a small set of high-end, adults-only shepherd’s huts on its own farmland, self-contained and just steps from the bar, making it possible to walk out onto the heath at dawn and be back for a pint by evening.

For a wider choice of hotels, inns and bed and breakfasts, most visitors look to the surrounding New Forest villages and towns. Cadnam and Nomansland, both a short drive from Fritham, have country inns and guesthouses, while Fordingbridge and Ringwood to the west offer a broader range of accommodation along with shops and restaurants. Lyndhurst, generally considered the New Forest’s capital, and the railway village of Brockenhurst further east have the largest concentration of hotels in the National Park, from traditional coaching inns to smarter country-house hotels, and both make comfortable bases for exploring Fritham and the wilder north-western corner of the forest by car.

Wherever you stay, book ahead in summer and during autumn half-term, when New Forest accommodation fills quickly, and expect narrow, unlit lanes on the final approach to Fritham itself – a torch and a bit of patience for grazing ponies go a long way after dark.
