Boyd Valley Lake Campsite (Certificated Site)

Upon arriving at this 'campsite' I had a picture of Tranquility and beauty. I was thoroughly looking forward to a few days fishing on what look like a beautiful Lake.. Unfortunately the reality here is very different. The Lake was dirty, there was geese poo literally everywhere and with all due respect to The travelling community I've never been to campsite with permanent residence in dirty tents and caravans who were clearly living there Permanently. This suppose beauty spot is Surrounded by a building site with a half finish pond, rubble, machinery and dirt everywhere. We stayed no longer than half an hour before being forced to book another campsite nearby. this was not an easy task as it is now in the middle of summer and most places are completely full. As a result I Kindly requested a refund as we hadn't stayed there at all, this was rudely declined by the owner whom tried to fob this site off as an ongoing project, which is fine but then only open when you've finished all your works or advertise accordingly so that people know to avoid this place in order to have a nice holiday. We were supposed to stay with four people and now feel as though we have had £150 stolen from us! we weren't even offered a partial refund. I would strongly recommend visiting this site but only as a drive-by just to verify what I have written Is both fair and factual.. If anyone feels (General public) that I am wrong or being unduly unfair I will retract this post. Hopefully that will be the case because it will mean the correct changes have been made.

My partner and I had the most fantastic two night stay at the site. Suitably located between Bristol and Bath, yet we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the most beautiful, peaceful countryside. Great camping site with all individual areas rather than one big field. It felt so unique! Great amenities, ideal for fishing enthusiasts, although we enjoyed the aspect of having the lakes to view. Finally, what a top bloke, Peter. As we read previously on many reviews, very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back! Highly recommended.

I wouldn't call this a wild site at all since since it had hard pitches and quite a lot of permanent residents. The bins were overflowing and the toilets were quite grubby, but the site was very busy. Weirdly lots of traffic coming and going till late, it definitely wasn't a quiet retreat on a arrival. Quite a few boozy blokes and couple cars playing loud music. Seemed like a bit of blokes fishing retreat. Not great vibes when you arrive. However, once you get past the fishing lake and to the campsite up the back its a little better, and was quite nice next to the smaller pond, but there was lingering strange vibe/energy and it was quite busy. Friendly campers though and fine for a one night spot on your way somewhere else. Also bookings say "from £14" but is then £18 at checkpoint for some reason. No reception on site, and didn't see or hear from the hosts so hard to review the service. It did the job though, wasnt terrible but wasnt amazing

Enjoyed a fantastic bank holiday weekend here in our 8m Motorhome. A superbly run campsite. Peter the owner is super helpful and booking was simple on their website. The site is absolutely beautiful with lots of greenery round the fishing lakes. The facilities are basic but adequate, toilets, shower, washing up area, clean water and chemical waste. For a small cost fire pits and wood can be rented. A very quiet, idyllic place with a friendly respectful atmosphere. Thank you Peter for a relaxing stay.
