Holmesfield has little accommodation within the village itself, but its setting on the eastern fringe of the Peak District, between Chesterfield and Sheffield, makes it a handy base for exploring the moors, edges and dales further west while staying somewhere with good transport links. Rather than hotels in the village, most visitors base themselves in nearby Chesterfield, Dronfield or Sheffield, all a short drive or bus ride away, or look further into the Peak District towards Bakewell, Baslow or Hathersage for a more classic Peak District stay. Chesterfield offers a reasonable spread of chain hotels and independent B&Bs within easy striking distance of its famous crooked spire, while Sheffield's city centre and Ecclesall Road areas have a wider choice again, from budget stays to boutique options, plus better public transport if you are travelling without a car. Wherever you stay, Holmesfield's pubs, the Horns Inn and the Angel Inn in the village itself, and the Peacock and Moorlands out at Owler Bar, make good targets for a meal or a drink after a day on the moors, and the Cordwell Valley below the village is a pleasant spot for an easy evening walk. Booking ahead is worth doing at weekends, particularly in summer and autumn when the Peak District draws visitors from both Sheffield and Derbyshire, and during Chatsworth's seasonal events, when accommodation across the wider area can fill up quickly.
