Huntington makes a practical, low-key base for exploring York without staying inside the city walls. Its position just off the A1237 outer ring road means quick access into York itself, out towards the A64 and A1(M), or north to the North York Moors, while avoiding the premium prices and parking headaches of a central York hotel. Accommodation directly in the village is limited, so most visitors look to York itself, a few minutes' drive away, or to neighbouring villages such as Strensall and Haxby, both of which have a small spread of guest houses and B&Bs.
York offers everything from budget chain hotels near the station to characterful guest houses inside the old city walls and boutique stays in converted townhouses, with the historic centre, Minster and museums all within easy walking distance once you are parked up or off the bus. Self-catering cottages and apartments are also plentiful across York and the surrounding Vale of York villages, useful for families or longer stays, and generally offer better value than a comparable Huntington-adjacent option, of which there are currently very few. Booking ahead is worthwhile at almost any time of year, since York is a year-round destination that gets especially busy for its Christmas market, race meetings at York Racecourse, and the summer season.
