Jura Hotel Field

We stayed here at the beginning of the season and it felt like they might still be ironing out a few things - for example we did not have any hot water! Breakfast service seemed challenging for them also whilst the dinner the night before was fine. The location is however great and of a good quality.

On the Isle of Jura for a few days self catering, a beautiful, tranquil and peaceful location where the Jura Hotel bar was just the ticket for tasting local brews - Lussa Gin, Deer-Island Spiced Rum and the namesake Jura whiskies, plus Big Strand lager and Finlaggan IPA (both Islay brews). Jura Distillery is well worth a tour and pop into its shop. Behind the hotel bar, Cameron nonchalently proffered expert tasting notes of the 25+ Jura labels - cask nuances that make this single malt so popular. Around 20 flavours to choose from at the Hotel. The bar staff led by bar manager Cameron keep a well run, welcoming bar. Thoroughly recommend.

I have stayed at the Jura Hotel many times since 2015. The staff are always very friendly, the rooms clean and comfy and the food good. I stayed for two nights on this occasion and all great. I was off elsewhere on the island and came back to camp for two nights and that is when things went wrong. A wedding do was organised in a large gazebo on the vamping field. I hope it was one of the best days of the couple’s lives and also, as it happens, I love a good rave however none of us camping in the field next to the marquee were invited to the party and all expected to be able to go to sleep at a reasonable time OR be told we were in for a late and noisy night. I asked a member of staff when the post-wedding party disco would end and she went an asked the manager (I saw her do it), who reported that the music would end at 11.30pm and they would all repair to the bar. In the evening 11.30 came and went and I dug deeper to avoid biting my own tongue off with the din. Vexed, I went to the outside bar and asked when it would stop. 1am I was told. So either the information from the manager was a bare-faced lie or the timetable had been updated and none of us had been warned. I asked for my money back the next morning which was returned with no apology and a begrudging “oh its only 10 pounds it hardly matters” implying that I would have had difficulty recouping a larger sum. So what is the source of my grievance? Not the wedding party and couple who’ve every right to have a beautiful day. Not the younger staff who were friendly and just passed on what they’d been told. No, its with the manager. She needs to rethink her attitude to paying guests including those in steerage abiding outside in the rain.

I stayed for a friend's 50th birthday party - between us we booked out all the rooms. The whole experience was memorable and the owners and their staff got it just right: available to help when required but never intrusive and with no arbitrary rules or regulations. The breakfast is outstanding - I had the full Scottish one day and eggs benedict the next. The venison stew for dinner was very nice too. We were here in February, way out of season. It must be stunning on Jura in the summer.
