Small, family-run touring park on a working croft above the Sound of Mull

About Balmeanach Park

Tucked into sloping croft land near Fishnish on Mull's quieter east coast, Balmeanach Park is a modest, family-run alternative to the island's busier sites. Views stretch across the Sound of Mull towards Morvern and the mainland hills, and the handful of pitches for tents, tourers and motorhomes—some with electric hook-up—suit campers after a peaceful, unpolished base rather than resort-style facilities. Sheep and Highland cattle graze the surrounding fields, and the nearby shoreline is a known otter haunt.

Toilet and shower blocks are basic but clean, and the site's position midway between Craignure and Salen, close to the Fishnish–Lochaline ferry, makes it a workable touring base for the whole island without the summer crowds of Tobermory. Dogs are welcome. Worth calling ahead to confirm opening dates and availability, especially outside peak season—this is a working croft first, campsite second, and all the better for it.

Great campsite with great facility onsite and nearby. We were in a campervan and the hardstanding pitches are very spacious with plenty of room between neighbours. The local shop is excellent, the local bakery does great coffee and light bites and all other amenities on site were excellent too. There's a great washing machine and dryer outside the shop, which is quick and easy to use also. We only went to the pub for drinks, but the service was great and the food looked really good. Would definitely stay there again if in the area.

Amazing campsite with amazing views. The drive from Craignure was beautiful. Had everything we needed. Has a well stocked shop, bar and restaurant. Our motorhome pitch came with electric hookup and a great view. Didn’t use the shower or service facilities but they looked clean and modern. There’s a nice wee fenced off area for letting your dog off the lead. Wished we stayed longer.

One of the best campsites we have stayed on. Booked a front row pitch and the view did not dissappoint (even though weather was not great). Owners have genuinely thought of every small thing which made a perfect stay, park and facilities immaculately clean. Access to electrical items including microwave which is useful in a small campervan, dog run and seats dotted about the park. Limited food options at restaurant next door so would recommend checking menu before relying on as a food option, shop well stocked with everything you might need. Direct access to a pebble beach which was handy for the dog. Overall a lovely stay and would highlighly recommend this site.

Thoroughly recommend Port nan Gael as a central campsite to explore the whole of Mull. I've stayed before many years ago & the recent upgrades to the site have been superb! The site is spotless, grass well kept. Toilet block is very good (slight grumble about there only being 3 cubicles for the whole site in both ladies&gents) but again spotless & well kept. Showers are fantastic for a site! Very well catered for dogs with the dog wash & dog run on site. Thank you for lovely week long stay on site, I will be recommending PNG to fellow campers 👌🏻 The hotel is a 30 second walk from the gate, a very well stocked shop for everything you'd need. The staff were helpful & super friendly. Thank you again.
