The George Hotel

There are hotel stays that you enjoy, and then there are hotel stays that genuinely remind you what true hospitality looks like. Our experience at The George Hotel was nothing short of exceptional, and the biggest reason for that was Nicole. From the moment we arrived, Nicole made us feel less like guests and more like lifelong friends. Her warmth, professionalism and genuine care were unlike anything we’ve experienced before. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and she somehow managed to anticipate what we needed before we even asked. It’s incredibly rare to come across someone who doesn’t just do their job brilliantly but clearly loves making other people’s experiences memorable. Nicole is an absolute credit to The George Hotel. Her attention to detail, infectious positivity and effortless ability to make every guest feel special completely elevated our stay. She has that rare gift of turning great service into unforgettable hospitality, and she deserves every bit of recognition for it. The hotel itself is beautiful, with a fantastic atmosphere, stunning surroundings and everything you could want for a relaxing stay, but people like Nicole are what truly set it apart from every other hotel. She is the kind of person you remember long after you’ve checked out. If you’re visiting the Isle of Wight, The George Hotel should be at the very top of your list. And if you’re lucky enough to be looked after by Nicole, you’re in for something genuinely special. She is, without question, one of the best hospitality professionals we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you, Nicole, for making our stay absolutely unforgettable. The service was possibly the worst I have ever experienced. The setting is lovely but unfortunately on this occasion the food and service was not. We ordered our first round of drinks over half an hour later I had to ask again and finally the arrived. The starters came out after 20 odd minutes which is fine and we’re ok. The mains took over half an hour to come out after the starters had been cleared. One steak was supposed to be medium rare and came out well done. The chips and 2 steaks were cold. The took the chips and cold steaks away and left us to eat the remaining steak with no chips and returned 20 minutes later with new chips and replacement steak. Unfortunately everyone else had finished eating at this point otherwise all our food wood have been cold. Our second round of drinks were no better. Over 30 minutes wait after ordering, so we had to go up again to ask where they were. Then after all that the bar staff were high fiving each other like they had been excellent at there jobs. Lots of tables were complaining. I emailed the George rather than posting a review but they couldn’t even be bothered to reply. Shocking

My wife and I chose The George to celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary, returning to the Isle of Wight where we spent our honeymoon. We were looking forward to a relaxing and memorable stay, but unfortunately the experience was deeply disappointing. Throughout our two-night stay we were repeatedly disturbed by guests in neighbouring rooms returning late at night, shouting, screaming, laughing loudly and slamming doors. We reported the issue on the first night and followed up both by telephone and in person with reception, yet the disturbance continued. In the end, I felt compelled to speak to the guests myself. As a result, neither my wife nor I got any meaningful sleep during our stay. We also experienced repeated service issues, with drinks orders being forgotten, delayed, incomplete or incorrect on multiple occasions. While each issue on its own may have been minor, together they reflected a level of service that fell well below expectations. What disappointed me most, however, was the response to my complaint afterwards. While the hotel acknowledged that staff had spoken to the guests responsible for the noise, there was little recognition of the impact the disruption had on what was meant to be a special anniversary celebration. Instead, I was told that no other complaints had been received that weekend and was offered a 10% discount on a future stay. I was also advised that I should consider returning between October and March for a quieter experience. Having already spent a significant amount of money on what should have been a memorable occasion, I found it difficult to understand why the solution appeared to be spending more money and returning at a different time of year. A tenth wedding anniversary is not an occasion that can simply be recreated. Sadly, both the stay itself and the response to the concerns raised left me feeling that The George fell well short of the standards it promotes.

We went to the George for a lovely lunch as a family. We felt very welcomed and Katie, our waitress, was so friendly and warm with the children. The food was good, particularly the burger, but it was the service that really made it a positive experience. The lady at the welcome desk was also lovely. Thank you
