About Barkbeth Campsite
If you've been dreaming of a back-to-basics break, a wild-camping adventure or epic hiking excursions in the company of your dog, Barkbeth Campsite might just be the answer to your prayers. Open to the public only 60 days a year, this quiet site on a working farm sits in the northern fringes of the Lake District National Park, where views west catch glimpses of Bassenthwaite Lake and south reveal Skiddaw's distinctive silhouette looming above. You're in the foothills here, and a short walk up the farm lane puts you on the direct footpath to the mountain itself.
Amenities have been kept nicely minimal to preserve the peaceful rural vibe—pitches have no electricity, but there's a drinking-water tap, portable toilets, a unisex hot-shower cabin and a washing-up sink. After a good long hike, fire up your barbecue on one of the slates provided by the entrance gate, or take a half-hour stroll to the pub in Bassenthwaite for real ales and home-cooked food. The lively market town of Keswick is just ten minutes' drive via the A591.

What visitors say
A fantastic little place. It's not a campsite like Google might have you believe, but rather a welcome chance to get out of the rain if you're hiking, bicycling or like me on a motorcycle. I used it as a base for visiting Vindolanda, the Pennines and the Lake District. The local pub is also within walking distance. The owner Pauline is the kindest hostess you can imagine. Price is 25 quid per night, which is honestly really fair for the treatment I was given. Highly recommended.

I spent a night here on my walk of Hadrians wall and the coastal path. Clean, quiet and great hosts. The kitchen was nice, although be warned the bathrooms are separate from the lodging. The shower is attached to the camping barn. Very comfortable and I'd happily stay again.

Stayed here a couple of years ago while walking British mainland coast (4500 miles, 281 days). Best camping barn of all. Clean, comfortable, well equipped. Very kind and friendly host.

Lovely place to stay or camp. Pauline is a wonderfully welcoming host and the facilities are good and clean. I camped with my tent for £10/night, and it's £25/night to stay in the camping barn.
