Tree Grove Caravan Park

Location was brilliant as it was easy to cycle in and out of the city. However, Dan was quite rude when I sought out help when the pitch we were given was rocky and very difficult to get pegs into. Smart comments were made which was not needed or helpful. Thankfully I had stronger pegs and got a loan of a stronger hammer as first lot of metal pegs that I have always used for years had bent up and my hammer broke as the ground was that hard a few inches down. A clear sound of metal hitting rock was around most of the pitch but apparently they were "tree roots" or a "hidden building". I had pitched my tent in our back garden the week previously with some difficulty due to prolonged dry weather but nothing compared to the rocky ground at this pitch. Also, we didn't have an option to avail of electricity as we hadn't specifically requested it in advance. Other campsites we visited have always had that available. Facilities were limited in the campers kitchen, just a kettle and one small fridge and tiny freezer compartment for the whole campsite. No microwave or much access to fridge and the tiny freezer was full. To be honest the campsite was OK, facilities were clean but rude owner would completely put me off as there is absolutely no need to disrespect paying customers! Funny how short sighted people can be!

I have mixed feelings about this site. The campsite itself was tidy and well maintained. The facilities are basic, but grand for my needs. The toilets were cleaned regularly, and although the showers were a little grubby, I wouldn't call them dirty. The main problem was the owner, whose attitude was off from the second we arrived. He was sarcastic, condescending, and needlessly rude (which I see from looking at other reviews is a theme in any negative comments). The way he speaks to people, he seems to assume customers are idiots until he's proven otherwise. He asked if my tent was big or small. Apparently giving the tents measurements is the wrong answer, as he looked at me and repeated "is your tent big, or small", really slow. When I said "big", he told me I'm the "only person" who has answered the question properly, and that people just repeat the same thing over and over (they just keep saying it's a 6 man tent, apparently). When I told him I had a "big" tent, he calculated the cost for the pitch was €42 a night. I explained I was told it's €37 per night. He said that's "strange, we always say it's €42" for a big tent, 2 adults and a child. So he started to read through my email exchanges with him, out loud, as I stood waiting to pay. He then asked me if I have a "problem" with this, and I said no, it's fine. He proceeded to read out loud again, and then told me that it "looks like you have a problem". Completely coincidentally, I'm sure, but he stopped reading out the emails JUST as it got to the part where I was told it'd be €37 per night... guess who quoted me that... He also took a call on speakerphone when I was trying to check in (no real issues with this), and then made jokes about the lady who called to check for availability for the upcoming weekend (the lady had made reference to her disabled son, and he joked about how awful he was for not having space for her disabled son, and said "hopefully you've no issues in that regard"). He seems to make a game out of trying to make people look stupid (to him, at least). He was dismissive, patronising, and seemed to take a strange enjoyment in making the interaction uncomfortable. I spent the rest of the trip avoiding him. The campsite itself was fine, but the owner’s attitude is enough to put me off returning.

I stay in the smaller Pod and I was perfect. Nice deck and chairs outside, everything i needed for a 1 night stay, cozy, clean, great clean toilets and showers. Grass cut fresh. Location is great. 25 min walk to town centre, our a few minute taxi. Highly recommend.

One of the best campsites in Ireland. Very well maintained with excellent clean facilities in a beautiful location very convenient to Kilkenny city. Dan & family are friendly, welcoming & helpful & their rates are great value.
