What visitors say
Visited the London Canal Museum with my museum social group, MACS (Museum, Art and Culture Socials) for their Ice Sunday festival! We descended into the Victorian ice wells (safety first with hard hats on) and watched an ice cream making demonstration by a historian portraying the Victorian “Queen of Ices” Agnes Marshall, who ran a cooking school in London and invented the ice cream cone. We even got to taste the delicious hand-churned ice cream in Madagascan Vanilla and Marmalade flavours! There was also a talk about the Victorian ice trade and of course the whole museum was open to visit as well, along with canal boat rides. Ice Sunday is an annual event so sign up to their mailing list and book as soon as tickets are available. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers at the London Canal Museum for a brilliant day out!

Small museum on two floors. 7 yr old and 4 year old grandsons enjoyed getting on the tractor which had pulled the boats and dressing up in caps and waistcoats that would have been worn by people working on canal boats. Lots of interesting information and exhibits well displayed. Bench and picnic table overlooking the canal basin where we ate our picnic lunch before going on the Long Tom narrow boat for a fascinating round trip to City basin through the longest canal boat tunnel in London which included a welcome cup of coffee/squash. Very helpful staff/volunteers.

The museum is very interesting, showing life not so long ago along the canals. The staff were lovely and well informed. The building was an ice warehouse back in the 19th century. Many captivating exhibitions focused on canal history have emerged over time.
