What visitors say
I went to the cafe here recently. It is a lovely bright airy space. Located on the first floor. There stairs or a lift available. Friendly staff and quick service. There is a great view of the large stained glass window in this former church from the cafe area.

Lovely cafe in a stunning setting!! Great selection of teas, coffees and delicious cakes! You overlook a massive glass stained window. There is a small play area with books and toys for little children too! Seats aren’t the comfiest but it didn’t matter!

St Mary's Church Tower Tour I did the recently started up again Tower Tour today (Wednesday 23rd July 2025) The weather wasn't ideal today, but there were still some great views to be had. You need to be reasonably fit, and good with heights to do this. There are some almost vertical steps to climb, and descend again afterwards (backwards), as well as narrow spiral stone steps. Well worth a visit, and reasonably priced too. Tom & Angela were our guides and were very knowledgeable, and explained everything in just enough detail to make our visit interesting, without overdoing it. We visited the café beforehand where there is a lovely selection of drinks and cake, and pleasantly spaced seating. Nice clean toilet facilities on hand too.

I've been a vistor to the library for a long time, but never ventured upstairs before, so I decided to take a cup of tea there for a change. Here are the pros: Friendly and attentive staff, and a nice cuppa. Now the cons: If you're a mother with a kid or two, this is the place to let them shout , scream and wail; it's basically a nursery with a cafe. And as I said, I enjoyed the cup of tea, but I can't say the same for the seating; tiny rock-hard children's size chairs are all you get. Very uncomfortabel. And finally, the upstairs floor was obviously not part of the original church design, and it shows, Whenever anyone walks across the room, the entire floor bounces like a slumberland mattress. It really is very disconcerting. Sack the architect. I won't be back.
