Camping in Llanbedrog

Wild camping is not a legal right in Wales, and pitching a tent on open land around Llanbedrog or anywhere else on the Llŷn Peninsula without the landowner's permission counts as trespass, so anyone hoping to camp rough on the headland or coastal fields should look elsewhere or seek permission first; repeated or refused trespass can even become a criminal matter. Fortunately, the peninsula has a good spread of proper campsites that put you within easy reach of Llanbedrog's beach and gallery without any of that risk. The wider Llŷn Peninsula is well suited to campers who like their pitches close to the coast. The terrain here is gentler than the mountains of Eryri further east, a mix of low headlands, hedged farmland and sandy coves, which makes for easy walking between the campsite and the beach rather than serious hillwalking. That said, the coast path itself can be exposed in places, so a decent waterproof layer is worth packing whatever the forecast, and the weather off the Irish Sea can turn quickly even on an otherwise mild day.

As with the rest of the peninsula, the best camping season runs from late spring through early autumn. May and June often bring the most reliable combination of dry weather and quieter sites, before the school holidays fill pitches through July and August; September can still deliver good conditions with noticeably fewer people about. Outside these months, exposed coastal sites become considerably harder going, and many smaller campsites reduce services or close for the winter.
