Hotels in Lochinver tend to be small and personal rather than large-scale, reflecting the size of the village itself: harbourside inns, family-run guesthouses and a scattering of B&Bs make up most of the accommodation on offer, many with views over Loch Inver or towards the peaks of Assynt. Choice widens a little across the surrounding crofting townships, including Achmelvich, Clachtoll, Stoer and Inchnadamph, where converted crofts and lodges often sit closer to the area's beaches and lochs, at the cost of a short drive back into the village for shops and eateries. Standards are generally high and hospitality genuinely warm, in keeping with a part of Scotland that has built much of its economy around walkers, anglers and NC500 travellers passing through. Rooms are limited in number across the whole area, so booking ahead is important, particularly for July and August when the North Coast 500 is at its busiest and demand for beds in this remote corner of the Highlands comfortably outstrips supply.
