About The Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa
The Spread Eagle Hotel & Spa occupies one of England's oldest coaching inns, with parts of the building dating back to 1430, right in the centre of Midhurst. Sloping floors, inglenook fireplaces and exposed oak beams remain throughout the hotel, giving it a genuinely historic character that few country hotels can match.
Alongside the period features, the hotel runs a contemporary spa with a Scandinavian-style heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym, making it as much a spa break destination as a place to stay while exploring the South Downs. The restaurant, set beneath a stained-glass window, has built a reputation for seasonal, locally sourced cooking.
Its position in the middle of Midhurst means guests can walk to every shop, café and gallery on North Street, while Cowdray's ruins and polo grounds are a short stroll away across the parkland at the edge of town.
What guests say
My partner and I went for a spa day at this hotel and did the Just Peachy Spa Day package. Right from booking we had an absolutely fantastic experience with The Spread Eagle Hotel. The facilities were clean, good amount of seating poolside, delicious food and drinks and amazing treatments. Particular mentions to the spa therapists, Libby for their help with our booking and being so patient, helpful and friendly, then Nann and Liaya for the treatments which were fantastic, both being friendly, respectful and kind. Already looking when I can make a return visit, this time with my Mum. Fantastic experience, thank you!!

Had a celebration dinner and stayed the night for my girlfriend's birthday, and we are already thinking about coming back! The hotel is very traditional, it feels like being transported back in time to be staying in such a beautiful and well maintained historic building. We were lucky enough to be given a free upgrade when we checked in and were wowed by the lovely room we were given on the top floor - brand new bathroom, tea facilties, and a very comfortable bed which gave two people who are picky about mattresses and pillows a really good night's sleep! The dinner and breakfast were both delicious, and all the staff can't do enough to make you feel welcome and special. There's even a lounge bar which was a lovely, quiet space to spend time in the evening. The cherry on top of the cake is the spa - the pool area is very well maintained and very nicely decorated with big windows and plenty of seating around the pool. The sauna and steam room were both great, and the spa bath is one of the best we have tried - so warm and relaxing! We want to come back to make more use of it and find the time to book in some treatments. Can't wait to revisit the Spread Eagle, and would recommend it to anyone wanting a special place to stay for an occasion, with easy access to the quaint high street and the surrounding countryside.

Lovely room, very big comfortable bed. The spa is very relaxing, sipping Prosecco by the pool. Staff very welcoming and helpful. We had quite a wait for afternoon tea/coffee when we arrived and the bathroom was a little tired in places but would go back as felt so relaxed whilst there.

As regular visitors, we can’t wait to come back soon! Thank you for making our celebration as newlyweds so enjoyable and relaxing. It truly was a special getaway!
