Riverview Country Park - The Kestrel

Photo: Janet Scott

Forres puts you within striking distance of several things worth doing. Speyside's whisky distilleries—Benromach, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet among them—are a day trip away. The town itself has golf courses, including Moray Golf Club, set against coastal backdrops. Brodie Castle and Sueno's Stone, a Pictish monument over a thousand years old, are nearby for a sense of the region's deeper history.

The Kestrel is a detached lodge sleeping four: a double bedroom, a twin room, and a bathroom with shower, all on the ground floor. The open-plan living and kitchen area give a sense of space, with room to cook and eat without feeling cramped. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included; heating is electric. There is parking for one car on site. Smoking is not permitted.

The riverside setting itself has its own appeal. The Findhorn runs past, and there is countryside around, which means mornings are quiet and the light changes through the day. It is a base rather than a destination in itself, but a useful one if you want to explore Moray without being anchored to a town.

The Farmhouse was more than we could have ever expected! The cost is more than worth it, lots of space and cosy rooms as well as a hot tub! Definitely will be coming back soon 😁

The lodge was lovely, however after being shown around the lodge by the Park Manager we went to use the oven and found it not to be working, my husband went up to site office and was told by person on site that night that the problem was known to them, but would be reported again to Park Manager, by the Tuesday we still hadn't been approached and had to go and discuss with Park Manager who said she was trying to get in touch with the man who was fixing it. By the end of our stay we had to have our meals out each night and had still not been updated by the Park Manager. Poor management.
