Tweedenburn Shepherd's Hut

The campsite offers a great mix of accommodation styles, including RV parking, standard tent pitches, electric tent pitches, glamping pods, and a few lovely Shepherd’s huts. The glamping options and huts looked especially appealing, although I opted for an electric tent pitch myself. All pitches apart from the RV area are accessed on foot from the parking area, with the rest of the site spread across a large open grassy space. Facilities were simple but thoughtfully done. There’s a small kitchen area with a sink, microwave, kettle, and even some tea (donations welcomed). A larger communal hall in the barn provides a comfortable place to eat or relax, and I appreciated being able to use the deep freezer to refreeze ice blocks for the next day. There are lots of nice touches throughout the site. The outhouse decorated with old comic clippings gave it plenty of character, while the communal hall included useful information about the surrounding area, e-bike rentals, a small library, and an honesty pantry stocked with a few essentials and random odds and ends. The whole site was quiet, clean, and set in a beautiful, idyllic part of southern Scotland. I particularly enjoyed renting a fire pit, with everything needed conveniently provided by the campsite. I didn’t try the local bus service myself, but there’s a bus stop not too far away with direct connections into Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Fabulous, well maintained site. Toilets and showers are spotlessly clean, and everything you could want from a campsite. The pitches are large, with secure cycle parking under cover. Washing up facility is inside with access to a kettle and microwave. There is also a large lounge area with a freezer and honestly shop. Finally, the owners are really attentive and helpful, making our stay a real joy. We were sad to leave such a beautiful site.

We loved our stay at Shepherd’s Rest. We had high expectations based on the reviews we’d read before going but the reality was even better. The facilities were always clean and fresh smelling. Simple features like hooks on the back of the shower doors (to allow you to prop them open after use to dry out) meant that the showers dried very quickly and kept it fresh for the next camper. We went with 2 young children and we felt safe to allow them to roam independently. Having a separate carpark meant we didn’t have to worry about cars. The same with the no dog rule. They loved the table football in the barn and the actual football net. The animals were a huge hit as well as the stunning butterfly walk. We’d happily go back without children though- the surroundings are just beautiful and a lot of effort goes into making in looking so aesthetically pleasing- wild flowers, beautiful hedging and keeping the grass short- there are no muddy footpaths- all beautiful fields and stones around facilities. We explored the coast while there- Eyemouth, Berwick upon tweed, Holy Island, Bamburugh and the Farne Islands (our favourite). We look forward to our next visit. We will be going back.

A peaceful, nature-oriented campsite with four spacious tent pitches that is more than worth the money. The four toilets and two shower-wash facilities are very clean and equipped with high-quality soap. I never had to wait. The campsite is situated at a higher elevation, offering beautiful sunsets. Alison and Mark are very open and hospitable. They are transforming their sheep farm into an apple orchard, with potential plans for cider production in the future. The campsite deliberately limits the power supply to 1.5 kW, which imposes some restrictions. No dogs allowed. It is located just a 10-minute drive from Berwick, with excellent train connections to Edinburgh (45 minutes). A great base for visiting Lindisfarne, Bamburgh, and the Five Stones (all within about 30 minutes).
