Woodland and lawn pitches in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, with plenty for children
Clippesby Hall occupies the grounds of a country house between Acle and Potter Heigham, in the middle of the Broads National Park. There are around 115 pitches divided into eight distinct areas, ranging from open grassy lawns that suit families wanting space to kick a ball about, to secluded pitches tucked into woodland, to all-weather hardstandings with electricity, water and drainage for motorhomes and caravans. The variety means it is worth reading the site plan before choosing, because the character of a stay here changes a lot depending on which paddock you end up in.
Facilities are extensive for a site of this type. There are two grass tennis courts, a football pitch, mini-golf, archery, two children's play areas, a treehouse in the woods, a games room, a cycle trail and bike hire. On site there is also a shop, a café and a bar, along with holiday cottages and pine lodges for anyone who would rather not be under canvas. There is no swimming pool. Dogs are welcome on most pitches and the wooded setting gives good natural shelter when the wind gets up, which is a genuine advantage over the exposed coastal sites.
As a base for the Broads it is hard to improve on. Boatyards at Potter Heigham and Horning are within a short drive, the Thurne and Bure are both close, and Great Yarmouth is about twenty minutes east if the weather turns and you want amusements. BeWILDerwood is nearby and popular with the same families who book here. Peak season pitch prices run roughly £30 to £45 per night, with much better rates in spring and autumn.
