The Orchard Retreat

North Devon's countryside rolls between the coast and moorland, and The Orchard Retreat sits within this landscape—a converted farm building in the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty near Coulscott. Five bedrooms and three bathrooms sleep up to ten guests in a whole property to yourselves, with exposed stone walls, vaulted ceilings and wood finishes throughout. Valley views reach across green fields from the main rooms and the mezzanine snug, which has a library and a quieter space away from the open-plan kitchen and living areas.

The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking at scale, and the draw for many will be the new deck outside: a hot tub overlooks the valley, there's a sauna, garden seating, sun loungers and space to eat outdoors. The bedrooms vary—one is a super king with an ensuite and access to a sunroom and terrace, another a king with a balcony, the master suite has a dressing room and Juliette doors onto the deck, and two twin rooms are on the top floor. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. No smoking throughout the property.

The location works for groups wanting countryside and coast in equal measure; sandy beaches and the moor are both within reach for day trips. The Coulscott Estate also has a heated indoor pool, games room, children's play areas and other shared facilities if anyone in your party wants to use them during your stay.
