Dunsley Hall Country House Hotel

Dunsley, near Whitby · Hotel

Victorian shipowner's mansion in four acres of grounds near Sandsend, ten minutes from Whitby, with 26 rooms and an award-winning restaurant.

About Dunsley Hall Country House Hotel

Dunsley Hall was built for a Whitby shipping family and retains the oak panelling, stained glass and carved fireplaces of a late-Victorian merchant's house. It stands in four acres of lawns and gardens in the hamlet of Dunsley, a couple of miles inland from Sandsend and about ten minutes' drive from Whitby harbour.

There are 26 bedrooms between the main hall and a garden wing, ranging from compact doubles to four-poster rooms with sea or garden views. The restaurant has built a following well beyond the hotel's own guests, with menus that make heavy use of Whitby-landed fish and North Yorkshire meat, and there is a comfortable lounge bar for a drink after a day on the coast.

The setting works well for anyone who wants Whitby without staying in it. Sandsend beach and the Cleveland Way are a short drive, Runswick Bay and Staithes lie further north, and the moors around Goathland and Grosmont are twenty minutes inland. There is ample free parking, which alone is worth something in this part of the coast.
