Keel Lodges - Captain’s Quarters
North Yorkshire
Photo: Google Maps
Staithes sits on the North Yorkshire coast where the Cleveland Way passes through moorland and dramatic clifftop terrain. The village itself is a working fishing harbour tucked beneath rugged slopes, with narrow streets and cottages running down to the water's edge. Captain's Quarters is one of four refurbished former military barracks from the First World War, transformed into holiday accommodation while others remain in their original condition as a historical reminder.
The lodge accommodates twelve guests across five bedrooms spread over ground floor level. There are three bathrooms between them. The open-plan living space includes a dining area and kitchen with electric cooker, dishwasher and full refrigeration; a conservatory with pool table provides another gathering spot. Bedding and Wi-Fi are included, heating is provided, and there is ample parking on site. One dog is welcome. The property has an enclosed garden and grounds, though there is a step down to the garden level.
Walking is immediate—the Cleveland Way is minutes away, with moorland and cliff-top routes nearby. Scaling Reservoir offers sailing and fishing seven miles off. A leisure centre is two miles down the road. The village centre with its harbour is a two-minute walk down the cobbled street. Smoking is not permitted inside.
