The Bamburgh Castle Inn

This was, without question, the worst dining experience we had during our stay in Seahouses. The biggest issue wasn’t even the food—it was the complete lack of customer service. Every member of staff looked thoroughly miserable and as though they didn’t want to be there. Not a single person smiled, greeted us warmly or made us feel welcome. Hospitality seems to have been forgotten entirely. Our table hadn’t been cleared or cleaned after the previous customers, and despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, we had to ask twice before someone eventually dealt with it. We also had to ask twice for cutlery. We were told it would be brought out with our meals, but it never arrived, so we were left chasing staff yet again. If you want another drink, don’t expect anyone to come to your table—you have to queue at the bar every time. Yet you’re still prompted to leave a tip. Given the level of service, that was astonishing. What was even more frustrating was seeing several members of staff standing behind the bar or by the kitchen chatting amongst themselves while customers were waiting for assistance. There appeared to be plenty of staff on shift, but very little actual customer service taking place. The menu was uninspiring and very generic. Our meals arrived so quickly that we genuinely questioned whether anything was freshly prepared. I ordered the lasagne, which was oddly sweet, lacked any real flavour and was one of the blandest lasagnes I’ve ever eaten. My partner ordered the Reuben burger. The burger patties were dry and overcooked, and the fries were cold by the time they reached the table. The final straw came when we went to pay. We walked to the bar where there were at least five members of staff standing behind it. Despite being clearly ready to pay, we weren’t acknowledged for around 5–10 minutes. No “we’ll be with you shortly,” no eye contact—nothing. We genuinely felt invisible. We paid our bill, left no tip and walked out relieved to be leaving. For a venue in such a fantastic location, the overall experience was incredibly disappointing. Poor service, indifferent staff, average food and a complete lack of attention to customers. There are far better places to eat in and around Seahouses and Bamburgh, and unfortunately this isn’t one we’d recommend or return to.

I recently stayed at this lovely inn for three nights and couldn't be happier with my experience. The room was fantastic—great bed and stunning balcony views made it special. The service was tip-top; the team greeted us warmly and made sure we enjoyed every meal, which was delicious! Just hoping to get a spray bottle back we left behind, but that's not taking away from a brilliant stay. Highly recommend it!

Popped in for dinner on a sunny day out in Seahouses and had a really good experience. Nice views over the harbour, plenty of seating, and the food was spot on. The missus had the cider steamed mussels and I went for the venison — both were absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly, service was good, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Would definitely call in again next time we’re up that way.

Plain awful! The food portions are incredibly meagre, but the prices aren't! Had the very poorest fish (so small I could barely see it!!) and chips here that I have ever eaten, anywhere. I paid £18.95 for it and felt right really stung. Way, way over priced. My advice? Go anywhere but here and you'll be a lot, lot happier. I would never eat here again.
